Wedding is a ceremony in which two persons get united together in a Marital Bond. This Marriage traditions and rituals vary a lot among cultures, ethnicity, religions, nations, sociological customs etc.. Most of the wedding ceremonies comprise exchange of Wedding Vows by the couple, Gift Presentation like the exchange of rings, garlands, monetary items and a social authorisation by a public figure or a leader. Wedding garments are worn and it is followed by a reception. Musical tunes, poems, prayers or readings from religious scriptures or literature are also being incorporated into this very ceremony.

Annaprasan is a Hindu ritual that portrays an infant’s first food in-taking besides milk. The Sanskrit term Annaprasana literally means “eating of edible item” especially rice (Anna). That is why it is popularly termed as First Rice in English. Usually the ceremony is carried out when the child is about 6 months of age and duly arranged by consulting a Brahmin Priest who arranges an auspicious date in order to run the rituals in the sacred form. The occasion is celebrated in regard to the parents and priest in the centre with the whole family, friends, relatives and neighbours being present who all are invited to the programme.

Upanayan is a Hindu rite of passage that marks an individual’s conversion into a Brahmin – the highest sect in a Hindu race. In this ceremony, the young boy is taught the secret of life revealing the nature of Brahman – the ultimate reality; thus becoming a Brahmin through Gayatri Mantra. The implication of having the Upanayana ceremony is wearing the three-folded Sacred Thread on the body. The three folds of the holy thread signifies, Goddess Gayatri, the goddess of mind; Goddess Saraswati, the goddess of word and Goddess Savitri, the goddess of deed. That is why this ceremony is often referred as the Thread Ceremony in English.

It is a ritual which is conventionally conducted after an individual’s death by his or her ward(s). As per Hindu belief Shraddha rites enables a comfortable journey to the parents beyond their death without any distress and they gather momentum to move into the next higher region in the afterlife.
